ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

• 1968-1986 Born in Montreal, Canada. Raised in an atmosphere of style and art, I spent many hours making my own clothing and learning everything about art and sewing. I spent the summer of 1984 with my aunt FRANCINE GRAVEL, a well know artist who taught me the basics of painting. She was a great inspiration and encouraged me to pursue my dreams of becoming an artist.
• 1986-1989 Completed a degree in men's Fashion Design Marie-Victorin College, Montreal, Quebec.
• 1990 Completed an attestation of study in painting textile from Centre of search and design in impression textile, Montreal, PQ.
• 1989-2000 Worked as a pattern-maker, painter, and seamstress in the movie industry. I had two sons.
• 2001-2003 Moved to Vancouver and began a series of watercolors and an experimental project.
• 2003 Completed a diploma in Makeup Artistry at the Institute Edith Serei, Montreal, PQ.
• 2003-2006 Moved back to Montreal. I began a series of watercolors and acrylic paintings where I added embroidery. I cut different shapes out of my own prints and experimented with collage techniques.
• 2006-2007 Returned to Vancouver and decided to continue my dreams of working as an artist, expanding on the creative ideas that I started with a few years earlier. I have exhibited approximately 20 original works at BLISS Asian Bistro since February 2007. This autumn I plan to launch a collection of pieces entitled "A Blend of Culture"; a mixed media presentation. Right now I preparing for autumn/winter 2008 a series of abstract landscape.
• 2008-2009 Returned to Montreal for exploring new projet, see familly and be ready for new decision and a trip to Mexico.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Having worked in the fashion and movies industry, from pattern maker to seamstress to fashion coordinator, I have always loved handling all the different types of material: buttons, lace, zippers, jewellery, and fabric. Touching them and seeing all the various shapes and colours inspires me.

Today I am a visual/tactile artist, a textile and a painter artist. I work with paint, paper, scissors, fabric and many other materials. I don't just sew fabric, I also sew paper.

The harmonious bright colours and various abstract shapes in my work engage the imagination: by seeing and touching my work, viewers feel inspired to bring into play all of their senses. The visible and invisible treads of my work reaches out to them and motivates them to and create their own webs of life and imagination.

In turn, my inspiration comes from the essential treads of life: harmony, communication and respect. I am inspired by the harmony of colour in nature and by the language of material. When working with colours and materials, I want to remember that ultimately, everything comes from the same source. I treat colours and materials with the same respect as individuals, finding ways for them to work together even when they seem to be very different, one example of this incorporating, recycling into my art work.

It is hope that viewers of my work are transported to a new universe. Here they will see that there is a relationship between worlds of difference. This relationship is like a thread, a connection, a cord, a road to follow: and that road will lead us where we want to go.
